Eucalyptus cladocalyx – Sugar Gum
Description:
A tall, hardy Australian native eucalypt recognised for its smooth, mottled grey, cream, and yellowish bark, attractive foliage, and clusters of creamy white flowers. Native to South Australia, particularly the Flinders Ranges and Eyre Peninsula, it is naturally adapted to dry environments and is well suited to warm, semi-arid, and temperate regions. The tree develops a strong, upright trunk and broad canopy, providing valuable shade, habitat, and nectar for native wildlife. Sugar Gum also produces a dense, durable hardwood with useful timber properties, making it valuable for farm forestry, posts, poles, construction, fencing, firewood and other timber applications. Its attractive bark, reliable flowering, drought tolerance, and timber value make it a useful choice for windbreaks, shelterbelts, revegetation, rural properties, streetscapes, and large landscapes.
