Enchylaena tomentosa – Ruby Saltbush
Description:
A hardy Australian native spreading shrub with small, fleshy grey-green leaves and attractive red to orange berries that develop after flowering. Common across inland, coastal, and semi-arid regions, it is highly adapted to dry, saline, and nutrient-poor conditions. The berries provide food for wildlife and can also be eaten by people, while the foliage provides useful supplementary browse for livestock. Its dense, low-growing habit makes it valuable for groundcover, erosion control, revegetation, saline-land rehabilitation, and low-maintenance native landscapes.
