Description:
A hardy evergreen tree with a dense rounded canopy, glossy dark green leaves, and long decorative seed pods. Native to the Mediterranean region, Carob is valued as both an ornamental and productive tree. The sweet pods are commonly used as a chocolate substitute in food products and can also be fed to livestock - their pods tend to come on during the autumn feed gap. Extremely tough and drought tolerant, it performs well in warm, dry climates and makes an excellent shade and feature tree.
